Vocalist/leader Bryan Ferry has one of the truly great singing voices,
mixing 40’s crooner with 60’s Stax soul. When he and electronic wizard
Brian Eno formed the avant-garde rock group Roxy Music in the 70s, they
paved the way for a whole genre of music that still resonates to this
day. This intriguing and fascinating documentary includes interviews
with all the original members (as well as Eno’s replacement Eddie
Jobson) who deliver the goods on the reason Roxy Music was such a
phenomenon. Mixing artistic visual images with other-worldly music,
they were able to appeal to people on a myriad of levels, offering an
escape from the drudgery of every day life. The music stands up
surprisingly well, as is shown on the 2006 semi-reunion concert. My 20
year old daughter loves this band, as well as Eno’s current music,
showing that something good has lasting power. And, it’s nice to hear
someone actually SING a song instead of just groaning, like today’s
current crop of blue eyed soulless wonders.
