Vivian
Male New to the smooth jazz singers corner is Vivian Male,
who’s got a soft and plaintive voice, silky and delicate. Here she
teams up with artists like Herman Johnson/ss, Frank Wilkins/key, Skip
Smith/b, Eric Preusser/dr and Jeff Lockhart/g for a collection of tunes
that relies heavily on 60s and 70s pop. She floats delicately on tunes
like “Walk On By” and “The Look Of Love.” The
highlight is a sweet duet with Ray Greene on “Could It Be I’m
Falling In Love,” which captures the innocence of romance. A production
that is a bit heavy on keyboards and programming makes one want a bit
more acoustic feel next time around, but all in all a nice opening round.
