By George W. Harris

Vocalist Pamela Luss has put out a handful of releases; I really liked
her last one, Magnet. This one is even better! It’s got a bluesy feel,
not doubt indebted to Houston Person’s breathy tenor that creates smoke
rings around Luss’ earthy voice. The in-the-know rhythm team of John di
Martino/p, James Chirillo/g, Ray Drummond/b and Willie Jones III/dr
deliver soulful and easy accompaniment to Luss’ dark chocolate
treatment of standards like “You Better Go Now” and “Nice ‘N Easy.”
Luss tends to throw in a couple of curveballs on each release, and this
one has some dandies; a wrangling reading of “Teardrops From My Eyes”
is a dandy, as is the rarely revised “You Belong To Me.” She and
Person make beautiful music together, and her voice keeps you coming
back for more.
