Peggy
Duquesnel
Summertime Lullaby

By George W. Harris
LA-based Peggy Duquensnel sings, plays piano and writes in the jazz
tradition of guys like Dick Hyman and Ralph Sutton. On instrumentals
like “On Green Dolphin Street” and “Mack The Knife”
she shows a spry
and warm touch, while she’s also able to stride with the best of
them
on Ellingtonia pieces such as “Satin Doll.” Along with a tasty
ensemble
that includes Mike Higgins or Grant Geissman/g, Ernie Nunez orJim
DeJulio/b and Dave Owens orKendall Kay/dr, she brings her clear yet
unassuming voice to mature originals like “Promised Land”
and the title
track. She’s definitely able to kick out the jams, as she growls
through a driving “Drivin’ Blues” with confidence. Peggy
D shows quite
promise and on this disc, and hopefully she’ll do a few gigs out
here
to let us know how she handles a crowd.
