Brasil Brazil 3
City Hall Records
By George W. Harris
Brasil Brazil is a breezy band that hearkens to the feel and winsomeness
of the classic Sergio Mendes Brazil 66. They even do a handful of numbers
that Brazil 66 made famous, most notably “One Note Samba”,
as well as updated takes of Jobim tunes like “A Felicidade.”
The music can be rich and sensual (“Casaforte”) or funky (“Bananeira”)
in terms of arrangement. The vocals by Ana Gazzola and Sonia Santos is
lively and sweet, even on the clever reworking of Kurt Cobain’s
“Come As You Are.” Definitely for the party crowd more than
the pensativa times of the day, but a fun spin, nonetheless.
