Lori
Bell Smart call by flutist Lori Bell to delve into the songbook
of Brazilian artist Djavan for inspiration. His music is filled with irresistible
melodies and interest keeping rhythms. Bell’s pristine tone is perfect
in both range and dynamics of these tunes, and supported by musicians
like Tamir Hendelman/p, David Enos/b and the imaginative mix of Enzo Tedesco/d
and Anna Gazola. The band floats and weaves on delightful tunes like “Jogral”
and “Serrado”, with Bell’s flute sounding like an Andean
pipe at times. A few of the tunes have some satiny strings, like “Alibi’
that work luminescently well. Good soloing, good grooves, and a wonderful
mood is set by this sweet sounding lady. Nothing to hold you back from
checking this one out.
