Anjulie
Boom

By George W. Harris
While the cover makes her look like an angst-ridden victim, newcomer Anjulie-Jon
Levine’s music on this 3 song ep gives off a completely different
image. Cheerful, innocent, optimistic and cleverly winsome, she joins
the growing group of “quirky girls” like Sia that seem to
have popped up the past year or so. Indie, but lots of fun, these songs
have a synth techno groove, but “Love Songs” and “Day
Will Soon Come” have a 60s bubble gum attractiveness, while “Boom”
has a Middle East snap. Her nasally-math major-type voice exudes charm
and wide eyed fascination with the simple things in life. Coy, without
being cloying. She’s on tour right NOW, so check out her schedule
at www.concordmusicgroup.com. She’ll be in LA this summer. Don’t
miss this one!
