Soundtrack
O Brother, Where Art Thou?

By George W. Harris
This humble movie and soundtrack slowly got under everyone’s skin,
mixing the classic Depression Era version of The Odyssey with good ol’
American folk tunes. This 2 disc set includes all of the T Bone Burnett
produced material, plus an extra collection of “rarities and unreleased
tracks.” The mix of prison hollers like “Po’ Lazarus”
and “Tom Devil” fit right well with gospel tunes like “Angel
Band” and “I’ll Fly Away.” And rightly they should,
as this is what life is all about. Earthy tunes like “In The Jailhouse
Now” and “I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow” are more gut
level than anything you’re going to hear from the modern angst ridden
navel gazers or slick Sinatra wanna-bes. This is real life, with dirty
fingernails and regenerated souls. What more do you want?
