This ep by singer/songwriter Paula Prophet through me for a loop. At first glance, a look at songs that are titled’ “Show Me,” “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me” “That Man” and “Little Bird” would make you think she’s doing a set of standards. Wrong-these are all original compositions, a mix of pop, R&B and a dash of contemporary jazz. Teamed with a full ensemble that includes horns and multiple keyboards, Prophet’s crisp and confident articulation delivers upbeat tunes like “Show Me” and the title track with the clarity of a bell. Her tone is as brisk as a trumpet on “That Man” while her sense of timing is spot on during “Only You.” Not a bad message from a Prophet who may be honored in her own hometown.
