There are B3 trios, and there are B3 trios. This one, conceived by Palmer/B3, Garramone/as and Fisher/dr, is a bit different in others in the layout. Rare is the alto sax that teams with the wheezing B3, and the tunes here are a hyperkinetic lot; short, concise, and bouncing in a million different directions like a pinball in an arcade game. Some of the tunes, like “Dragon” and “Pancakes” have a nice funky backbeat, while others such as “The Snake” and “Champagne” twist and turn like a motorcross workout. This team sounds like it’s custom made for some singer to back up. Any takers?
