Pianist Jose Negroni has lead a powerhouse trio, and this one with Nomar Negroni/dr and Marco Panascia/b is filled with highly energized music. The sparks fly on tunes like the complex and assertive “Fingers” and “Milani” which feature the leader’s nimble finger work jousting wth the assertive drumming. The electric keyboard work on “Bailando Rumba” reveals a Chick Corea influence, with charged assertiveness mingled with melodic creataivity. Contrasted with the machismo of “Mi Triguena” is the passionately romantic title track which features Panasica’s wondrously bowed bass along with Noegroni’s Lisztian piano work. Bold, declaratory and technically thrilling, this trio drives like a Maserati.
