Andre Matos The title
of this recent release by guitarist Matos means “why” in latin,
and that is the question I asked after listening to this quizzical disc.
Why are there these weird and edgy interludes between so many songs? Why
are the longer compositions (performed with Leo Genovese/key, Thomas Morgan/b,
Ted Poor/dr and Hoah Preminger/ts) mostly directionless and generally
just too languid and elliptical? Vocalist Sara Serpa brings her Luciana
Souza-like voice to a handful of tracks, which adds the other question-why
not include more of her, as she saves the session? Too many questions,
and not enough answers here.
