Hey, why should movies like Gladiator and Braveheart get all of the good music? Who would have thought that a couple of shows from the Food Network would warrant their own soundtracks, but here it is! Composer/musician Craig Marks takes the concept of soundtracks to an unexplored genre: FOOD! Here, he’s put together music that is featured on two of the most popular gastronomic programs, and has set heady and thematic music to not only the opening and closing credits, but to such galactic themes as sauces and main courses. The music, taken on its own terms, is exciting and enthusiastic, with the music sounding as well with mushrooms as with civil wars or citizen rebellions. Instead of shouts of Freedom or telling soldiers that “No man ever won a war by dying for his country…” we have titles like “Shittake Showdown” and “Tabla Tandoor” which have melodies and rhythms that get your mouth watering as opposed to attacking your life long enemy. “Four Course Tour De Force” and “Exotic Infusion” will have you running to your spice cabinet with fervor, ready for your next battle with dinner preparation. A rousing call to edible arms.
