Vocalist/writer Adia Ledbetter comes out strong on this debut disc. With a backup team including Freeman Ledbetter/b, Orlandus Perry/dr, Ed Paolantonio/p and Justin C. Martin/g, she adds an extra texture to songs like “You and The Night And The Music” and “Can’t Help Lovin’…” by throwing in a few lyrical and musical changes of her own. Her voice is full of enthusiasm and energy, but doesn’t let it get out of hand. Her take of “Beautiful” glides like a skateboarder, while “Darn That Dream” slides as easily as Ricky Henderson into second. Her own title track is a clever ode to her upbringing, while “These Foolish Things” includes some personal added dedications. Heart on sleeve honesty here.
