Juan Garcia-Herreros Colombian-born
and Berklee-schooled bassist Juan Garcia-Herros (are there enough hyphens
in this sentence?) puts out an amazingly impressive debut of a disc here,
displaying the six stringed electric leviathan in a myriad of environs.
The disc is bookended by a pair of impressive solo excursions, while the
remaining 8 tunes range from Zawinul Syndicate-styled fusion (“Pequeno
Samba”)to delicate and melodious folk music (“Song For St.
Katherin”). His agility on the electric bass is, well, electrifying!
He can give it a Hendrixy fuzz on the multi-textured “Miss Jones
Drove Me To School” as well as dig into a deep groove with acoustic
bassist Harvie S on “Bulket.” His team of Antonio Sanchez
/dr, Roberto Quintero/perc, Klaus Dicbauer/reeds, Luis Leite/g, and Pete
Nater/tr-fh has a Mercedes-like turning radius, going around musical corners
and stopping on a dime. Walk off homer-when’s he coming to town?!?
