Recorded back in 2008 in Potter Valley, CA, this disc with Rich Halley/ts, Bobby Bradford/c, Clyde Reed/b and Carson Halley/dr, features four original post-modern tunes that are fervent, semi-free and felicitous. The rhythm team is loose yet coherent, while Bradford’s sweet tone is pungent on the 15 minute “Grey Stones/Shards of Sky.” Halley himself comes from the Trane school of sound, and is in his element on “The Blue Rims” and “Streets Below.” The sound quality is a bit distant, but the excitement is palpable. Fans of jazz a bit left of center and right of free will like this as an addition to their purchase of the Carter/Bradford set on Mosaic.
