John Goldman’s Quadrangle Sax and flute player John Goldman leads an intriguing
band along the interesting combination of Kendall Moore’s trombone
and Leslie Beukelman’s voice along with the lighter than air rhythm
team of Scott Hesse/g, Patrick Mulcahy/b, Cory Healyey/dr and Juan Pastor/perc.
Goldman blends his sax with wordless vocals to create a rich mixture on
sound, as on the lovely reading “Monk’s Mood” as well
as his own “Color Therapy.” His teaming up with Moore on the
bluesy bop piece “Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hill has a Jazz Messenger
feel, while “Moore is More” has some wonderfully propulsive
moments. Hesse’s guitar is always keep everything focused, and blends
in wondrously with Goldman’s flute on “Soy Gonzo.” The
music glides like an Olympic skater, with lots of wondrous moves and turns.
