Supposedly, Oleg Frish is a big name in his native Russia. He sure put some sheckels together to assemble an orchestra that includes guys like Jeff Hamilton/dr, Chuck Berghofer/b, Pete Christlieb/ts, Chuck Findley/tp and Gary Foster/ts, just to name a few. He runs through some standards and pop hits. No problem there. It’s just you have to ask yourself if you want to listen to a guy that sounds like a Ukrainian Johnny Mathis. A high tenor with an Eastern European accent, that could actually double as a lisp; it’s just a bit too distracting for my tastes, although he does has an inviting sense of swing. Just where ARE my Jackie Paris discs?!?
