Rebecca Coupe
Franks Rebecca Coupe
Franks plays trumpet, flugelhorn and even sings a bit on this impressively
attractive disc that finds her leading a band with Luis Perdomo/p-key,
Mary Ann McSweeney/b and Richie Morales/dr. Besides showing impressive
chops and range on latin tunes like “Exposure” and the title
track, she demonstrates sophisticated composing skills. Tunes like the
cascading “Chase” or the swaggering “New & Now”
beg repeated listenings, while “Exposure Duo” with Perdomo
is as delicate as a morning rose. She and Summer Carrie share a few vocal
duties, ranging from the funky “Be The People” to the fragrant
“Life Has Just Begun.” Her heart seems to be in the latin
side of jazz, which is no problem to these ears. Quite attractive sounds
here.
