Look up in the sky! Is it a chanteuse? Is it an indie rocker? Is it a mainstream bopper? No…bassist/vocalist Brandi Disterheft! This disc is made up of 11 disparate compositions that obviously show the wide range of talent of the leader, but make you wonder which conveys her real heart and soul. The hint of Miles Davis on “Sketches Of Belief” display a shadowy and sepia-mooded lady, while Laurel Canyon folksiness creeps into “He’s Walkin” and “Combien De Changes.” A bit of Depression Era swing keeps ;you on your toes with “Twilight Curtain” while her bop chops are highlighted on “A Night In Haiti.” Ultimately, interestingly frustrating.
