Here’s a pianist that will get your attention: David Cook’s got a nice mainstream touch-sort of Phineaus Newborn’s bop chops with post modern delivery. He leads a treio with Matt Clohesy/b and Mark Ferber/dr through a set of (almost) all originals, and each song has something new to say. Hehe whole likes intricacies and clever little side bars, as on the crisp and cheery “Fresh Remnants” and “The Thing,” but he’s also got a nice portion of the dreamer in him. Tunes like “Robin’s Song,” “Idly, Ideally” and his take of “Come Sunday” reveal a sensitive romantic. Clohesy shows some nice bass work on “Napali” while Ferber keeps up with all of the hairpin turns like Mario Andretti. Fresh as Lasagna out of the oven!
