Theo Bleckmann Vocalist
Theo Bleckmann has never shied away from musical challenges; he’s
put out material ranging from Schumann to Ives. This time around, he mixes
his high tenured voice with Spartan accompaniment, ranging from chimes,
finger cymbals, lyre, shakers and even a water bottle on a collection
of material that goes from Emily Dickenson to Joni Mitchell and back over
to Tin Pan Alley. A solo album in the truest sense of the word, he goes
from almost Gregorian a cappella (“Duet For One”) to simple
wanderlust (“ I Hear A Rhapsody”), but always keeping the
mood shadowy and nocturnal. Haunting, and at times bordering on frightening,
the music has a monastic quality, with the voice echoing off of the walls
as if you’re interrupting some late night ritual. Intriguing, to
say the least.
