AMEN! The Sons of the Soul Revivers: Live!

You usually don’t associate Central California as a gospel mecca, but the Morgan Family of Dwayne, James and Walter bring on home some sweet soul music along with accompanists Jim Pugh/org, Thomas/g, DaQuantae Johnson/voc-b and Oliver Calloway/dr on this live recording of music that will get your soul stirring.
The vocals by Dwayne Morgan are reminiscent of Clarence Fountain from the Blind Boys of Alabama. He’s got that same raspy preaching feel, while some Chuck Berry guitar riffs mix with Sunday Morning on “Come Over Here” and the R&B rooted “ Satisfied.” Vintage Baptist two steppers like “Shook” and “It’s A Needed Time” will get you up and praising, and while the crowd says more “Yeahs” than “Amens” on pieces like “Joy,” you have no doubt at Who the music is directed at, as hand clapping “Eyes Have Not Seen” and the testifying ‘I’m A New Creature” will have you rolling in the aisles or at least passing around the pl ate in no time flat.
